In the season 3trailerthat dropped Wednesday, the Philadelphia-based elementary school is facing a shakeup as principal Ava Coleman (Janelle James) — whose usual antics the gaggle of misfit teachers have grown accustomed to — has had a major change of heart.

“I went to Harvard this summer. I’ve learned what it truly takes to do the job of a principal,” Ava says, and the lessons she took from the elite college included a far stricter way of running the school.

“Break it up, slackers. I got cameras all over this joint,” she announces to a group of teachers.

History teacher Jacob (Chris Perfetti) fearfully declares, “She must be stopped.”

Barbara (Sheryl Lee Ralph) and Melissa(Lisa Ann Walter) eventually enlist the help of Gregory (Tyler James Williams) in trying to break down Ava’s newfound sternness.

“I cannot stand any more of this ‘new’ Ava and you are a very powerful tool,” Barbara tells the first grade teacher, prompting him to try his hand at seducing Ava – whom Melissa had deemed “F-O-I-N,fine” after the summer break.

The attempt falls short though, despite Gregory bracing himself in the doorway of the principal’s office with his muscles flexed.

“All these rules are so … hard,” he says, attempting to draw Ava’s attention to his muscles.

She’s less than impressed – and even less distracted from her new way of leading. “Here’s a rule: put your arms away Jeremy Allen Black,” the principal tells him, playing onThe BearstarJeremy Allen White’s name.

While Ava’s trying out a harsher approach to leadership, Janine (Quinta Brunson) is trying out something of her own. “Oh f— yeah,” she says to Gregory in one scene, which prompts him to eye the camera with his signature wide-eyed look of shock.

Janine admits that she’s “trying out cursing, you know, seeing how it goes,” but based on Gregory’s reaction, it’s not going all that well.

Neither is their attempt to bounce back to friendship after theirlong-awaited kiss in season 2, it seems.

“Oh no, no, no, no, Gregory and I are good,” Janine says unconvincingly.

Gregory agrees in his own confessional with an equally flimsy, “Yeah, we’re fine.”

The trailer closes out with Janine declaring, “You guys missed a lot.”
