scientist are scrambling to obtain painkillers that can relieve suffering without the addictive potential of opioids . One likely solution , a new study out Wednesday in Science Translational Medicine suggest , might involve creating modified versions of the common line discourse botox , otherwise know as botulinum toxin .
Botox is produced by its namesake Clostridium Clostridium botulinum , a soil - loving bacteria that only can develop in oxygen - free environment . It ’s a potent neurotoxin that can paralyze the entire body , do people to drop dead from respiratory failure .
