I got robbed on the subway in Brooklyn about 2 calendar week ago , my iPhone ( and some other crap)was take . I forebode the police who were very helpful , they searched the area for a little bit , keep an eye on communications protocol and all that fun stuff .
in any event , fast forward to yesterday when I get a email from Apple that someone had filed a request for a replacement phone due to a software malfunction from Apple CareService . I suspect that since I made an appointment with an Apple genius before , the consecutive telephone number on the sound was associate with my email . I called Apple to confirm this , after Apple and AT&T transferred me back and forward a few times I had the confirmation from the two company the phone was mine , I had the address the avail request was get along from ( in the email ) and a headphone number ( from an Apple rep ) .
I ’m so excited that I can get my telephone back ! Until the bull arrive at my sign , they tell me that since I did n’t file a police report they ca n’t do anything . I did n’t charge it because in social club to file one , I would have had to go to a precinct downtown ( like an hour out ) look through books of pictures to seek to ID the thief , whose boldness I only attend from the side for a msec . And really , what would a police report do for an iPhone that was stolen on a NYC subway a week before Christmas?(plus i had a final that night ) The two officers also secern me that even if I had a constabulary report it would still be up to Apple and AT&T to decide how to move with the site .
So I call AT&T … and over the course of instruction of 12 hours I speak to a caboodle of multitude who are all very sorry that this is the situation I ’m in , but their hands are tied — they have to honor the warranty and it does not matter that it ’s clean the phone is mine . They would require the authority to say them to do otherwise .
So I point to the law precinct where an military officer calls the rep I talk to last ( aka the government speaking to Apple ) . The officer spends about an minute on the phone with Apple telling them that once the current holder of the phone ships the earpiece back to Apple , they should ship me the replacement . He gets the same answer I got — they will not do anything , they do not care that the person who has the phone presently is using a stolen phone and is not using it with AT&T ( AT&T confirmed the phone # I get from the Apple repp is NOT an AT&T number ) .
It ’s not even about the phone any longer ( I bought a blackberry—$600 is a TAD derisory for a raw iPhone ) its the principle of the situation , basically Apple is siding with someone who will most likely jailbreak the telephone set as defend to helping a loyal customer ( I ’ve been using Apple product incessantly — iPods , Macs and iPhones ( since the first gen ) ) who legally bought the phone from Apple and is using it with AT&T.
The whole berth is just scattered to me .
Yeah , unconnected is a good word . Absurd is another . Does anyone out there experience if this is purely about not file a police report , or is there some other intellect why Apple is being such a dick about this ? [ Consumerist ]
UPDATE : curtly after air the email to Consumerist , Alisa obtained a police report . Apple still refuse to do anything . Perhaps send off an email to[email protected]might remedy this place , as this electronic mail is wide bang to lead to a high level client care service . Steve has even been known tohandle some issues in person .
