Speaking on Britain ’s Sunday Brunch ( as shared by Ross Maclean onTwitter ) , Aykroyd was asked about Sony ’s all - female Ghostbusters reboot , which under - performed at the box part and will likely not get a sequel . Aykroyd was quick to sing praise about the film ’s casting , as he hasin the past times , but did not mince word about Paul Feig , the celluloid ’s director . According to Aykroyd , Feig ’s unfitness to listen to feedback led to Sony having to order a series of reshoots , be the studio up to $ 40 - million in the process .
“ [ Ghostbusters ] made a lot of money around the world but just cost too much , making it economically not feasible to do another one . So that ’s too bad . The director , he spent too much on it . He did n’t germinate scenery we suggested to him and several scenes that were going to be involve and he say , ‘ Nah , we do n’t need them . ’ Then we tested the movie and they require them and he had to go back . About $ 30 to $ 40 - million in reshoots . So he will not be back on the Sony stack any time soon . ”

We do know there were somereshoots , but it ’s unclear how much they really cost or what changes Sony was demanding Feig make . The studio could ’ve been attempting to amp up the action mechanism episode or sharpen dialogue , but it ’s also possible they want more references to the original — which was really one of its great job . One of the main ill about the motion picture was how some of the tantrum and gags relied too heavily on paying protection to nostalgic here and now from the original cinema , alternatively of get the film deliver the goods on its own .
