We know there were a bunch of changes made to Rogue One , be that in the script phase , the shooting phase angle , or the edit phase . That means a pile of stuff cease up not making the last cut . The movie is finally out on DVD and Blu - ray this calendar week , but there were no additional scenes there . So we ’ve piece every bit of information that we could find about what ’s missing .
The Opening Crawl

So Much Vader
At one distributor point , it looks like Darth Vader met with Krennic on board the Death Star , where he ’s never really on the affair in the final variation of the movie .

So should they ever decided to , there would be a riches of path of approaching these dissimilar things . And I know from having seen sort of the essential variety of scenes throughout it , I know there ’s vastly different readings of at least four of those scenes .
That makes me wonder if there was a version of this film where , when Krennic call Vader on Mustafar , he cowers less and call for more . It would certainly gibe with the variation that has him striding through body on the beach of Scarif .
In an other version of the script , Darth Vader and Krennic did have one more fundamental interaction . Krennic did n’t become flat in the Death Star blast on Scarif , but was found alive in the rubble . He would n’t have outride alert for farsighted , since his failure would have lead to the inevitable Vader Force - choke . More significantly , WhittatoldEWthat they ’d had to amount up with a really complicated reason to excuse how someone would survive a Death Star hit . “ It ’s a routine of a reach , which is why it is n’t in the ruined picture show , ” he said .
Jyn Erso Interacting with Others
The initial marketing for this movie contained a lot more dialogue from Jyn ’s time on Yavin IV with the Rebel Alliance ’s leadership . Jyn being asked to state her name and the recitation of her crimes , all of which is likely drop from the final film .
Those bits we never actually saw , but they were voice over for the scenes of a handcuffed Jyn on Yavin IV .
Another line from the trailer that just never made it into the net pic was the famous , “ This is a insurrection , is n’t it ? I rise up . ”
I have no idea why Jyn said “ Good ” and Cassian responded “ Good ” in this U - Wing scenery , but it ’s also missing .
“ The skipper articulate you are a Quaker . I will not kill you , ” is a cut K-2S0 origin . That ’s o.k. , he had plenty of interchangeable 1 . Likewise , K-2S0 give a classic Star Wars calculation of the betting odds by and by ( 97.6 pct of bankruptcy ) is miss from the final cut .

Cut Cameos, Characters, and Planets
As it is , Rogue One is overindulge with planets . Jedha , Eadu , Yavin IV , Scarif , Mustafar — it ’s a lot of locations . And yet , there was a timewhen the first set of scenes with the Rebels was going to be on Dantooine — the planet Leia give up in A New Hope to hold open Alderaan — before the Rebels take flight to Yavin IV . There was also a percentage point where Saw Gerrera ’s base was n’t on Jedha , but a new moon with an atmosphere charged with electricity . Too many planets , frankly . Also cut ? accord to the Art of Rogue One , there was a complicated bit where the escape from Eadu included a optical maser control grid that had to be destruct . A lot of details were swerve from the planets , including more of Vader ’s Mustafar castling , a more undone and “ mine ” look Jedha ( a source of Kyber crystals , commemorate ) , a shot of the dish of the Death Star moving from a major planet to the ship , and the Jedha “ Camel”io9 bring out .
If Admiral Raddus — a drab Mon Calamari serving the Rebellion — seemed an awful lot like another famous Mon Calamari admiral who famously pointed out that something was a sand trap , that could be because Admiral Ackbar was initially meant to appear in Rogue One . Ackbar became Raddus because Ackbar showed up in The Force Awakens and they did n’t want to use the character again so soon . Whitta told EW there were a few other cameos , “ but I ’m not going to tell you , ” Whitta says . “ You will indite it up and it will become a big tidy sum . It ’s not a big deal . They were just little thing that we put in there . ” So that ’ll have to be left up to hearsay and speculation .
We do know one other cameo that ended up cut , though . Alan Tudyk played K-2S0 , but his Con Man graphic symbol almost show up playing a airplane pilot . In a Reddit AMA , Tudyk explicate :
Yeah , I guess it ’s a cameo- Wray Nerely , so the character that I diddle in Con Man . Sort of my alter ego in Con Man had a part in Rouge One Star Wars I played a pilot , and the scene got cut I just found out . Like did Wray Nerely survive ? I was really attend forward to seeing Wray Nerely in Star Wars , but truthfully Wray Nerely would never get that trade good of a job . So it was believably pretty good that he did n’t
Wray Nerely show up may not have worked , but a non CGI variation of Tudyk designate up might have been fun .
The Art of Rogue One reveals that the original version of the team that regain the Death Star design used to have a Jyn Erso who was a Rebel officer . Also , in that version , K-2S0 was an regal communications protocol droid alternatively of a security droid , there was a pilot program named Ria Talla , and Krennic was an Imperial spy on the squad . There also used to be aliens on the squad , named Lunak and Senna . The squad was assail out by two lineament called Dray Nevis and Jerris Kestal .

The Other Endings
In addition to the ending primitively film and cut — which had all the beach conniption and the unlike deaths of the characters — and the ending where Darth Vader killed Krennic , there were at least three more ending that were considered and put away .
In one version of Rogue One ’s script , Bodhi , Chirrut , and Baze did n’t subsist and Jyn was a stout penis of the Rebellion . That early script had some casualty , but the major characters of Jyn and Cassian ( although he did n’t have that name yet ) survived . However , K-2S0 was always slated to go bad .
Whittatold Entertainment Weeklythat this variant had a Rebel ship make it to the open of Scarif and deliver the squad . They ’d come across up with Leia ’s Tantive IV , transfer the Death Star plans to it , and then be attacked by Darth Vader . The ship would explode , and the consultation would consider they break down . But , say Whitta , “ They got away in an escape pod just in time . The pod bet like just another piece of debris . ”
John Knoll , Chief Creative Officer and Senior Visual Effects Supervisor for Industrial Light & Magic , was the mortal who initially cant over the story that would become Rogue One . Hetold io9that he considered an ending where Cassian and Jyn escaped and tried to use the traffic around Coruscant as masking . They go , but they transmit the plans to Leia , whose ship is taking off from there , outing her commitment to the Rebels . And then the two would have blow up their ship so Vader could n’t torture them .
The second possible terminate Knoll apportion with io9 had Cassian as a double federal agent who ends up on the side of good for genuine . to pull through everyone ’s life history , Cassian would have made it count like Vader ’s negociate to destruct the ship , but he ’d really use a “ carbon paper freeze dud ” to freeze the crew . With no life signs , but everyone in reality live and frozen , the squad would have live .

Other Bits and Pieces
While a lot of the changed clod are thematic , there are a few scenes that seem for seconds and then vanished .

Perhaps to up the tension of the scene by have it run out in silence , Baze ’s sniper shaft on Eadu is n’t come with by him saying,“They put down our home . ” By that point in in reality view the film , you knew that .
In the trailer , there was a injection of capture Rebel pilots on Jedha . It never appear in the motion-picture show , and I ’m at a loss for why or how it even was meant to fall out in the first piazza . ( Edit : I guess these might be pilots working for Saw who got captured . )
This panorama where the Rebellion high command bet at a expulsion of the Death Star also made it into the trailer , but never into the film . This makes common sense , since the delegation in the movie is to have Jyn find her beginner , not just the weapon , and the repose of the film is call back the plan . While I guess they could have had everyone just trying to find out what ’s depicted in the acoustic projection , induce no shots of it works even better .
