Well this is convenient . The University of East Anglia ’s Climatic Research Unit hasmade its spheric temperature dataavailable for Google Maps . Dubbed “ CRUTEM4 , ” the information allows Google Maps user to monitor how surface temperatures have change over prison term , both globally and topically .
Ars Technica ’s John Timmer has more info :
CRUTEM4 calculates what ’s called a worldwide mean land surface temperature . To do so , it separate the Earth ’s nation field into equally sized grid squares . Using temperature data point from monitoring equipment in each grid cell , an medium temperature for the cellular telephone is calculated ; these temperature are then averaged across the globe to give a global mean temperature .

One issue of this is that you may now easily draw up information for arguments like the one inthis late xkcd strip , while seeing which region of the planet ’s aerofoil still lack temperature data :
( NB : If you ’re looking for the data Randall Munroe used , specifically , i.e. the charts that track the number of cold nights in specific metropolis since the 1970s , see this collection of charts over at Climate Central . ) More information – include how to DL the CRUTEM4 dataset and search it in Google Earth – at Ars .
