Kate’s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, were also seen walking in with Kate’s sister, Pippa.

The royals looked cheerful despite the event taking place on the same day as thepremiere of new episodesofPrince HarryandMeghan Markle’s Netflix show, which expands on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s allegations of mistreatment within the family and the palace.

The festive event brought together members of the royal family with charity staff, community volunteers, frontline workers, military personnel and more to “celebrate the joy that human connection can bring.”

Kate also reunited with some familiar faces that she met over the past year, including 4-year-old Theo Crompton, whomemorably smiled ear-to-earwhen he presented the royal with a bouquet of flowers during her visit to Wales withPrince Williamin September. Princess Kate knelt down and held his hands as she greeted him.

In aphoto posted on Twitterafter the Christmas gathering, Kate’s office at Kensington Palace wrote, “Theo, great to see you again and so glad you could join us tonight!”

They also said in another tweet, “Thank you to everyone who has helped make #TogetherAtChristmas so special, it was fantastic to celebrate inspiring individuals and outstanding organisations with you all.”

Other surprises are certainly in store. Last year saw performances fromEllie GouldingandLeona Lewis— and Princess Kate herself! The royal surprised everyone when she sat down at a piano to accompany singer Tom Walker in aperformance of “For Those Who Can’t Be Here.”

According to a royal source, the idea for the performance came from Kate herself.

“Music was very important to the Duchess during the lockdowns,” said the royal source. “She also recognizes the powerful way in which music brings people together — especially during difficult times. For these reasons, she was keen to be part of Tom’s performance in this way.”
