Jeffrey Soffer, chairman and chief executive officer of Fontainebleau Development, first announced the resort in 2005 and originally planned to open in 2008, perThe Los Angeles Times.
Due to recession-related complications, however, the building stood unopened and “70 percent complete” for over a decade, perThe Hollywood Reporter. After reacquiring the property in 2021 in partnership with Koch Real Estate Investments, Soffer and Fontainebleau Development were back in business.
Now, 18 years after it was first announced, the hotel has an official opening date, Dec. 13, and its 3,644 rooms and suites are open toonline reservations.

Residing on nearly 25 acres, some of the record-breaking resort’s amenities include a 14,000-square-foot fitness center and a 55,000-square-foot spa.
Lapis Spa, which shares the same name as the Fontainebleau Miami Beach, will offer 44 treatment rooms, 11 luxurious suites, a purifying salt cave, and hydrotherapy lounges, as well as an infrared sauna and an“invigorating event” sauna, per a release.
