Brett Youngand Taylor Mills Young have a modern love story: The couple started dating in the early days of social media, years before the “Mercy” singer made it big in the country world.
“It was early Facebook yearsand I saw a picture on her roommate’s page with her in it,” Brett told PEOPLE in 2018. “I finally was able to finagle a group hang and it was pretty platonic.”
During this time, Brett moved to Nashville to write and record his first album. “It was one of those things where we needed to be apart to grow up before we could come back together,” he said.
After two years on their own, the pair reunited and got engaged and married in 2018. Brett and Taylor then welcomed two daughters,Presley Elizabethin 2019 andRowan Mariein 2021. Looking back on their relationship, Brett said their commitment is stronger than ever.
“Being able to be best friendswith a person you’re going to spend the rest of your life with is the most important thing. She has a very pure, kind heart,” he added.

Taylor grew up in the Seattle area in Washington. In September 2019, she sharedon Instagramshe and Brett attended a Seattle Mariners game together, where he threw the first pitch.
She attended Arizona State University

Brett met Taylor when she was a student at Arizona State University in Scottsdale, Arizona. She studied interior design and design management,per her LinkedIn. As an undergrad, she was also a Pi Beta Phi sorority member. Taylor graduated in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree.
Afterward, she worked as a manager at a Los Angeles Nordstrom for five years. Taylor moved on to work as a consultant for the fashion company TheRunthrough before landing at the interior design app Hutch, where she worked until 2017.
She married Brett in 2018

The couple broke up when Brett moved to Nashville to pursue his music career, but the country singer didn’t give up hope. Two years after their split, he texted Taylor. “I didn’t have his phone number. When you [texted me], it took my breath away,” she told PEOPLE in 2018.
Brett added, “All the good stuff was still there, but all the bad stuff that was born out of immaturity was gone. It was just really easy and obvious.”
The “Dance With You” singer and Taylormade their red-carpet debutat the CMA Awards in November 2017. He proposed with a custom ring he helped design in February 2018 in Oxford, Mississippi, near the University of Mississippi, where he went to school.
“There was never any bad blood; it was just the wrong time for us," he told PEOPLE at the time of the engagement. “We recently got back in touchand realized that we were both finally in the same place and knew it was right.”
The pair had a wedding ceremony in Palm Desert, California, on Nov. 3, 2018, in front of 200 guests. Taylor later revealedon Instagramthey had been legally married on Aug. 10, 2018, at the Rhinestone Wedding Chapel on Music Row in Nashville.
She and Brett have two daughters

Brett and Taylor are parents of two children: daughters Presley, born on Oct. 21, 2019, and Rowan born July 21, 2021.
“Presley is just now getting to the point where when she plays with dolls, she mimics how my wife is with her,” Brett told PEOPLE in 2021. “It’s good, because she’s just naturally learning.She’s so sweet with other kidsand she loves babies.”
It proved to be a great skill to have when Rowan arrived less than two years later, as Brett and Taylor wanted their kids to be back-to-back.
“We really wanted them to be close enough in ageso they could have a lot of things in common and be best friends,” he told PEOPLE when they announced the news of Taylor’s second pregnancy.
Brett continued, “Tay had her sister close in age growing up, so we both felt strongly we wanted Presley to have the same. Tay is so close with her sister, and that’s something we always knew we wanted for Presley. We feel very blessed!”

She inspired Brett’s first album

Brett revealed to PEOPLE in 2018 that the couple’s two-year breakup inspired him to write heartfelt songs for his first self-titled studio album,Brett Young.
According to the ACM Awards winner, the tunes serve as a “reminder that we went through that and came out on the other side. We’re better for it. She’s a very good muse!”
Taylor also said that the first time she heard the album, she reacted emotionally to recognizing his voice.
“I was driving to work. I didn’t even look down at my radio to see Brett Young and his name,” she told PEOPLE. “I instantly heard his voice and I pulled over to the side of the road and felt like I was hyperventilating.
Taylor added, “It was really hard because it brought up a lot of emotion, but I was also so proud of him.”
