Bridget Fonda and her husband, composer Danny Elfman, have been making beautiful music together for almost 20 years.
The actor and the musician married in 2003 and welcomed a son in 2005, after which Fonda decided to stay out of the spotlight and retire from acting. Elfman, however, shows no signs of slowing down; he’s the go-to composer for a variety of top directors and is famous for his work withTim Burtonon many of the auteur’s most beloved films. He evenperformed at Coachellain 2022!
Elfman and Fonda keep their relationship exceedingly private. They are very rarely spotted together and haven’t been photographed as a pair since Fonda was working in the industry. The couple now splits their time between a Santa Barbara ranch and a Los Angeles residence.

Elfman is a Los Angeles native who grew up loving music, particularly film scores. According tohis official bio, he traveled extensively as a young man, which helped inform his musical palette and appreciation for the art itself.
He was in a popular ‘80s band

Elfman was a member of the popular New Wave band Oingo Boingo. The band is best known for their song “Weird Science,” which also appeared in the ‘80s film of the same name. Elfman left the band in 1995 to focus on film scoring.
He frequently collaborates with Tim Burton

Though Elfman has worked closely with many directors, it’s his partnership with Burton that is best known. They’ve collaborated on over 20 projects, includingEdward Scissorhands,Batman Returns,The Nightmare Before Christmas,Corpse Brideand Burton’s popular Netflix seriesWednesday. The pair first worked together onPee-Wee’s Big Adventure; Burton and Paul Reubens approached Elfman to compose the score after following his work with Oingo Boingo.
“It was really just Tim and I … kinda like two kids in the kindergarten class and the teacher leaves and they’re just running their own class with no adult supervision,” Elfman shared ofhis partnership with Burton. “I didn’t understand until later what a luxury that was.”
Elfman has also worked closely with Sam Raimi, Guillermo del Toro, Peter Jackson and Gus Van Sant, among other big-name directors.

They’re parents to a son

Fonda and Elfman welcomed their only child together, son Oliver, in 2005. After Oliver was born, Fonda decided to take a break from acting to raise her son and hasn’t acted since. Elfman has two children, Mali and Lola, from a previous marriage.

Elfman has an impressive awards shelf. He’s been nominated for more than a dozen Grammy Awards and won the Grammy for best instrumental composition for theBatmantheme in 1990.
Elfman won his first Emmy award in 2005 for outstanding main title theme music forDesperate Housewives, and won another in 2016 for outstanding music direction forDanny Elfman’s Music from the Films of Tim Burton.
Elfman has been nominated for four Academy Awards, including for Best Music, Original Dramatic Score forGood Will Huntingin 1998; Best Music, Original Musical or Comedy Score forMen in Blackin 1998; Best Music, Original Score forBig Fishin 2004; and Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Picture, Original Score forMilkin 2009.
Elfman and Fonda sold two Los Angeles mansions in 2020

The couple unloaded someprime California real estatein fall 2020, listing both an 8,300 square-foot home and a 4,300 square-foot Midcentury style residence for sale; Elfman had purchased the larger home in 2000 for about $2 million and the second in 2015 for $3.6 million. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the couple and their son made their Santa Barbara ranch their primary residence, though they still have a home in Los Angeles.
Elfman performed at Coachella 2022

At 68, Elfman took the stage in Indio, California, for both weekends of the popular music festival, performing songs from Oingo Boingo, his film projects and so much more.
“It’s been amazing and an intense and insane feeling. Going into it I knew it was going to be a really risky endeavor,” Elfman said after the event, perVariety. “I don’t think anybody’s tried that before, mixing up these kinds of elements in this kind of insane musical mashup. When you’re trying a conceptual idea, you don’t know what’s going to happen. But in the end, not having a safety net is also extremely exhilarating.”
